A Message from CB Brady, Executive Director

Oh Alaska… I love you so.

As winter settles in, my walks become more and more motivating. We are fortunate to live in such beauty, in spite of the cold sometimes. The recent snap opens my ears to hear the crunch under my spiked boots. The squeaks, the chomps, the slips — there are sounds abound when you listen. For me, the brisk temperature engages and even energizes my thoughts. I find myself losing track of time as I walk my daily route. (Remember to wear your reflective gear when walking!)

How about those amazing sunrises and sunsets painting the sky lately? Even the shortest days in Alaska are filled with beauty. Escape south for heat? Sure… but you’re always glad to come back to the frozen tundra! Yes? No? Haha… depends on if you’re coming or going, I presume.

This season also fills me with deep gratitude for the heart of our work at the Alaska Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired: our incredible clients. I’ve seen firsthand how your stories, resilience, and feedback have shaped us. You’ve pushed us to evolve, expand programs, and innovate to better meet the diverse needs of Alaskans living with vision loss. Life is a continual learning process, and so is blindness. Each person we serve teaches us more about independence, adaptability, and the power of community. Together, we’ve grown stronger, more responsive, and more effective.

Right now, the Center is bumping with energy! Our hallways ring with enthusiastic clients, dedicated staff, and exciting opportunities — from adaptive skills training and technology workshops to vocational programs and statewide outreach. As we move through winter and the holidays approach, we’re brimming with momentum and gratitude for your support.

Watch out, 2026 — we’re ready to make you our brightest year yet! Wishing you and your loved ones a warm, joyful season filled with connection.

Merry Christmas,
CB
