The Alaska Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired provides the most up-to-date technology options to optimize the potential for students.
From the lowest magnification options, to the most complex electronic Braille note takers, the instruction takes the student from basic keyboarding to basic e-mail and Internet operation.
We do not teach every work-related program that might be in every work place, but our instruction teaches the basic keyboard navigation or Braille note taker operations that are most general and most likely to be used in work settings.
The instruction provided positions our students to meet the needs of today’s competitive work place in technology.
Technology is no longer a luxury, it is a necessary staple in entry into and upward mobility of any employee, no matter how simple or complex a task someone is likely to perform. We allow our students to enter the work place on a level playing field with their sighted counterparts, with the access technology whether it be speech, Braille, magnification, scanning or a combination of those technologies.
