The components of ADL instruction include:
- Clothing care and organization
- Techniques of labeling and organizing household items
- Shopping for and preparing healthy meals
- Methods of housecleaning to ensure sanitation and cleanliness
- Maintaining financial and medical records
- Safe and accurate sewing techniques
- Nutritional and medical management
- Social/recreational involvement
- Also emphasized in this component is an exploration of interests in various employment and training opportunities that appear to be fulfilling, preparation for job and/or school interviews, and practice with positive work habits.
In this component, clients learn ways to maintain personal grooming and hygiene with reduced vision, including clothing organization and care, nutritional and medical management, and social/recreational involvement. They also participate in techniques of labeling and organizing household items so they can easily find what they want, safe ways of shopping for and preparing healthful meals, methods of housekeeping to ensure sanitation and cleanliness, and how to maintain financial and medical records so that important documents are readily retrievable. Also emphasized in this component is an exploration of interests in various employment and training opportunities that appear to be fulfilling, preparation for job and/or school interviews, and practice with positive work habits.
